Description

  • Violet & berry
  • Dark chocolate
  • Full bodied
  • Rich tannins

"Sweetly ripe and elegantly perfumed on the nose showing dark cherry, floral, green olive and almond notes, leading to a fruit-expressive palate offering juicy flavours combined with supple texture and fine tannins, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2022

"Aromas and flavours of plums and tart cherries, crumbled stones and light flavours of vanilla and a touch of clove. Taut, fresh and youthful on the palate with a classic firm texture driven by tannins and acidity then flavours of red fruit and plum to reflect the variety and bouquet. An even lengthy finish with best drinking from day of purchase through 2026+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, May 2022

In this case talented winemaker Scipione Giuliani has produced a wine of great depth and balance. A dark colour-saturated, full-bodied modern style of Sangiovese with intense violet, berry and dark-chocolate, savoury flavours supported by good acidity and rich tannins.

Sangiovese is Italy’s most famous and most planted grape variety. Despite the international renown of Sangiovese in Tuscan wines such as Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino the variety is just as important in Rubicone, an important subregion of Emilia-Romagna where Sangiovese is the principal grape variety. Romagna (where the cities of Rimini, Riccione, and Ravenna are located) has 3500ha planted and after years of research it has emerged that two of the finest clones, R24 and T19, are in fact from Romagna.

Food Pairing: The wine is smooth enough to drink on its own but the complex flavours and rich structure of this wine mean it is a great accompaniment to a wide variety of cold-cuts, cheese and meat dishes.
