Description

Founded in 1995, Calmel & Joseph is a maison de négoce specializing in Languedoc-Roussillon wines from private wineries from across the region. Convinced of the extraordinary potential of this region, oenologist, Laurent Calmel, and Jerome Joseph work together on the vinification, blending and ageing of wines with the common purpose of demonstrating the little known yet unique quality of these Mediterranean terroirs. The Villa Blanche range is a total find and produces some of the best value, great tasting European wines we deal with...

Its immaculate white façade majestically overlooking the limpid blue waters of the Mediterranean, the villa is the archetypal symbol of a certain Art de Vivre and relaxed lifestyle, characteristic of southern Europe and this collection is no exception full of character and generosity, throwing its doors open wide to all those who appreciate the pleasures of wine and the curious of palate who wish, quite simply, to share an enjoyable moment over a good glass of wine.

Luminous and generous, Villa Blanche incarnates the Mediterranean lifestyle with its love of good living and here in this new exlcusive Black Market collection you can try three of their best!

This mixed case includes the following:

2 x Villa Blanche Chardonnay 2017 (France)

AWARDED SILVER MEDAL: Chardonnay du Monde  2018

AWARDED 91/100 POINTS: Sam Kim; The Wine Orbit

Just landed, the brand new vintage of perhaps New Zealand's biggest selling and most loved French Chardonnay...

"Wonderfully ripe and elegantly fragrant, the attractive bouquet shows white nectarine, rockmelon and nougat characters with subtle notes of vanilla and almond. The palate is succulent and creamy, delivering delectable fruit flavours together with silky texture and refreshing acidity, finishing long and smooth. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

2017 was a vintage of hot, dry conditions, as it was in 2016, resulting in concentrated the aromas, giving power to their expression. First of all apricot and vine peach, followed by magnificent notes of elderberry, aniseed, mint and a plethora of white flowers. The mouth is perfectly balanced as a result of harvesting in two passes; fresh, fruity and dense, with the presence of exotic fruit mingled with subtle, well-integrated, oaky notes. The finish is as succulent as ever, with that characteristic touch of salinity. A beautifully fresh wine from this new, particularly hot, vintage thanks to the painstaking work of blending

2 x Villa Blanche Syrah 2016 (France)

AWARDED 91/100 POINTS: Sam Kim; The Wine Orbit

AWARDED 16/20 POINTS: Jancis Robinson Master of Wine

AWARDED SILVER MEDAL: Syrah du Monde  2017

"Wonderfully fruited and immediately appealing, the bouquet shows blackberry, blueberry compote, vanilla and roasted nut aromas, leading to a succulent palate that is brimming with rich fruit intensity. It is plump, fleshy and velvety, and finishes long and delectable. A fabulous modern rendition. At its best: now to 2020" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Deep aubergine purple. Smoky bacon and dark-purple, sweet fruit. Shiny vibrant palate and a hint of parma-violet sherbet. Supple, easy-going tannins. Simple but immensely drinkable! This would be a fantastic – make that perfect – barbecue wine. It has the gumption and confident, ripe fruit to go with big smoky meat, all the tricky sauces and spices that tend to go with barbecues, as well enough acidity and tannic balance to be refreshing on a hot day. It would work with vegetarian barbecue dishes as well. Stock up for summer!" Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine

Very intense purplish colour in the glass with a nose of powerful black, jammy fruit notes that evolves to garrigue spices mixed with forest floor and dill. The mouth is full, round and opulent, packed with ripe fruits such as prune, fig and blackberry with superbly vanilla and toasted finish. This extremely luscious wine is a concentration of all the sun of the South.

2 x Villa Blanche Grenache Rosé 2017 (France)

AWARDED 93/100 POINTS: Sam Kim; The Wine Orbit

Awarded 16.5/20 POINTS: Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine

"An instantly appealing rosé, the bouquet shows watermelon, fresh strawberry and stone fruit characters with a lovely accent of white floral. The palate is juicy and refreshing, wonderfully supported by excellent fruit purity and vibrancy, finishing delightfully long and lively. A joyfully delicious wine. At its best: now to 2019" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"Medium coral pink. Pinkly juicy and candied rhubarb and lime jelly. Cancan dancing exuberance, strawberries and lemon verbena. Rather delicious" Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine

Exquisitely pale pink of great brilliance in the glass. The nose is floral, with notes of aniseed, rose and white blossom. Succulent, well-balanced, fruity and fresh at the same time, it reveals notes of citrus but also white peach, apricot and a touch of almond and mint. A beautifully long finish confirms this as a structured rosé that is not only excellent for drinking immediately, but one that will maintain all its qualities for the next two to three years.
