Description

This 2014 Paso Robles Zinfandel is a testament to the variety - dark purple in color with intriguing aromas of blackberry jam, boysenberry, anise, mocha and sweet spice. Dark berry flavors dominate the palate with hints of black pepper, and mocha. The smooth, soft tannins round out the palate for a beautiful, lingering finish. Enjoy!

Eos, the Greek goddess of dawn, opened the gates of heaven each morning allowing the sun to rise. Fiercely passionate, she was cursed by Aphrodite for having an affair wirh Ares. Her punishment was an instatiable appetite for young men. At Eos – the winery – we’re just as passionate as our namesake, but our insatiable appetite is focused toward the production of great wines. Since the mid-1980s, we have built our reputation on dense reds, complex whites and luscious dessert wines from great AVAs throughout the state.

For a region that has been growing grapes since 1797, Paso Robles has all of a sudden become one of the “hottest” AVAs in California. Located midway between Santa Barbara and Monterey, this rolling countryside is synonymous with big, rich, high-character wines. The west portion of Paso Robles enjoys a moderately cool climate thanks to the influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean. This is great ground for Chardonnay. The inland east side is warm and sunny and perfect for Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

The 2014 vintage was another dry year, with a mild winter that set the stage for an earlier than average start to harvest. The warm weather continued after winter, but with few heat spikes for a consistent spring and summer. Overall, the fruit was high in quality and quantity, with small berry sizes producing concentrated, more intense flavors.

Nice drinking now. Would be happy to buy more.

Drinkable. Juicy, fruity and sweet. Not complex. First bottle was a bit like Ribena. Fine for a everyday un fussy drink. Not something I would show up to a dinner party with.

Clean & drinkable but lacks the concentration Gnarly Head Zin
