"It is fabulously expressed on the nose showing rockmelon, watermelon, lemon peel and apple blossom aromas, leading to a succulent palate that is filled with delectable flavours. It is vibrant and lively with youthful charm, finishing dazzlingly delicious" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sept 2018
"Bright, moderately deep, pale-cerise pink, lighter on the rim with slight purple hues. The nose is fresh and bright with vibrant and lively fruit aromas of fragrant red cherry and berry fruit lifted by red florals, unfolding a little raspberry and cream and an amalgam of confectionary and thirst-quenching minerals. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate has a rounded but deep and well-concentrated core with packed flavours of sweet raspberries and cream fruit with a little confectionary and red florals. The palate has a firm and positive line, and flows smoothly with gentle phenolic textures and soft acidity, and carries to a soft, lingering finish. This is a fulsome dry rosé with well-packed flavours of raspberries and cream with floral and confectionary notes and a smooth flowing fine with soft, mouthwatering acidity. Serve with antipasto and tapasover the next 2+ years. Pinot Noir fruit, 55% from Gibbston and 45% from Pisa, given 2 days skin contact and fermented in stainless-steel to 13.9% alc. and 4.7 g/L RS" Raymond Chan, Oct 2018
"A generous style with a bright colour. Floral aromatics lead to concentrated flavours of fresh red fruits that are juicy and moreish. The finish is soft and off dry" Cuisine Magazine, Dec 2018
This 2018 Pinot Noir Rosé has a beautiful strawberry pink hue that hints at the delicious array of red fruit aromas that will unfold in the glass. Intensely aromatic, the florals and bright red fruit sing beautifully of “classic” Central Otago Rosé. Enticing aromas of cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry are carried long on the palate by the incredible creamy texture. It is a dry style Rosé with great concentration and sweet red fruit that is perfectly balanced by vibrant acidity which is the hallmark of wines from Gibbston and a result of our decision to pick early. With each new vintage, we set out to make a complex Rosé that is balanced and engaging - truly a kaleidoscope for the senses.
The 2017 - 2018 growing season was unique with the hottest Summer on record and the wettest February in Central Otago, although the rain was welcome as natural irrigation. It was a very early harvest with each block harvested 3-4 weeks earlier than previous years. The heat of the season rewards us with great fruit concentration while still retaining fresh acidity.
The fruit for the 2018 Wild Earth Pinot Noir Rosé comes from two of our favourite vineyards for Rosé. Around 55% came from an established vineyard in Gibbston with the balance coming from a higher elevation site in Pisa. These vineyards were selected purposefully for their potential to produce complex and balanced Rosé. The Pisa vineyard was harvested on the 14th of March and was fermented relatively cool in a stainless-steel tank. The Gibbston vineyard was picked a few weeks later on the 3rd of April and was also fermented at cooler temperatures in a stainless-steel tank. Grapes from both blocks were left on skins for 2 days before pressing in order to extract the beautiful pink hue.
