Description

"This is a very attractive red from the heart of Bordeaux; showing blackcurrant, dark plum, vanilla and cigar characters on the nose, followed by a beautifully weighted palate that is silky and polished. It is flavoursome and lingering to a fine, chalky finish. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Oct 2019

This Medoc displays a deep ruby red with violet highlights, in the glass. Aromas are fruit driven with black cherry and blueberry. Delicate notes of mint, black pepper and liquorice appear when agitated. Good texture on the palate with ripe tannins, leaving a brilliant long finish.

This wine was made in locations situated on the left bank of the Gironde estuary. The vinification process included de-stalked grapes & alcoholic fermentation in vats at high temperature (30-32°C) with daily pumping over. The wine underwent maceration (3 weeks) and then malolactic fermentation in vats. Finally, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for 6 months.

The viticulture was processed as sorting of the grapes. Low yields, hand tending, careful selection and minimal interference in the natural ripening of the grapes.

This wine is the ultimate homage to Thomas Barton who came to Bordeaux from Ireland in 1725. He quickly became the most important wine merchant in Bordeaux having built a solid reputation among faithful customers all over Europe, who recognized his expertise and know-how. The spirit of Thomas Barton has been perpetuated in this prestigious wine.
The packaging reflects the classic elegance of the 18th century: a typical “flacon bordelais” bottle – a short capsule – a long cork – and a sober label mentioning the name of the shipper and the appellation.

Food Pairing: Match this wine with tuna in red wine sauce, steak “Bordelaise” grilled on vine stalks, Pyreneens cheese with dark cherry marmalade; Serve between 16° and 18° C.
