The palate delivers excellent fruit intensity and weight, wonderfully complemented by velvety mouthfeel and silky tannins, finishing long and delicious. At its best: now to 2021" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2019

"This full-bodied wine is saturated with berry and bramble flavors, pushing the edge of sweetness. It’s big and mouthfilling, but light on tannins, giving a jammy sensation that's supplemented by traces of dried sage and black pepper" Wine Enthusiast 2019

Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel is made using grapes sourced from gnarled 35-80 year old head-trained vines. As some of the oldest vines in California, the fruit produced is exceptional, intense and full-flavored. This intrepid Old Vine Zinfandel has a gnarly core of jammy blackberry and black cherry flavors with hints of black pepper, balanced by complex American and French oak toast.

Food Pairing: Try pairing this bold wine with braised short ribs, chicken enchiladas or dark chocolate.

Alc: 14.5%

2 x Delicato Old Vine Zinfandel 2016 (California)

AWARDED 85/100 POINTS & 4 Stars: Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2018

"Fruit expressive and silky, this is an easy-going zinfandel with juicy cherries and plums, together with floral and spice nuances. The wine offers sweet berry flavours and rounded mouthfeel, finishing succulent and smooth" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2018

Delicato Old Vine Zinfandel is dark and jammy with aromas of blackberry bramble, raspberry jam and toasted oak. These same jammy fruit flavors carry through to the palate where they mingle with balanced acidity, supple tannins and a slight black pepper on finish.

The 2016 California harvest was earlier than usual and produced grapes of exceptional quality throughout the state, thanks to near-perfect weather conditions. After four dry winters, California experienced average rainfall during the winter months, setting a healthy foundation for the vines. Warm days and cool nights in the spring and summer led to even development and ripening of the grapes. In the final phases of ripening, cooler afternoons and nighttime temperatures resulted in complex, concentrated wines for the 2016 vintage.

Food Pairing: This wine pairs well with barbecue, gourmet burger, hearty pastas, Indian curry chicken and many other dishes.
