Leveret Estate Hawke's Bay Gewürztraminer 2016
Description
- Off-dry style
- Lychee
- Turkish delight
- Cinnamon
This wine has classic Gewürztraminer aromas of rosewater and lychees. Overlaying these aromas is a subtle cinnamon spiciness. On the palate is Turkish delight with cinnamon and nutmeg.
2016 can be summarised as being a very dry season. Warm temperatures in the second half of the season meant the total Growing Degree days for the season finished well above average and fruit across all varieties reached full maturity. This enabled the grapes to be picked based on flavour profiles.
The fruit for this wine was all grown at Leveret Estates Campbell Brook vineyard in Hawkes Bay. The wine was made in the Riverview winery where the grapes were destemmed and lightly crushed to the press where a few hours of skin contact time was allowed. The juice was then pressed to a stainless steel fermenter and inoculated with VL1 yeast. Cooling to 11°C gave a long, slow ferment to preserve the aromatic characters. The wine was stabilised and transferred to our Katikati winery for light fining and filtration, with bottling on 7th September 2016.

A nice drop, but wonder if it may almost be nearing the end of its best.
