Description

  • French oak
  • Mulberry & blackberry
  • Dark chocolate
  • Full-bodied

The 2020 Estate Shiraz shows abundant fruit flavours that our 50 year old vineyards provide. The nose shows mulberry and blackberry fruit with ablack tea fragrance. The palate is bright and full bodied with succulent tannins and great concentration of dark-berried fruit, bitter chocolate and blueberry. A classic example from a superb vintage.

A cool spring with windy conditions led to a delay in bud-burst, but theseason then saw record temperatures in late December. This was followedby a mild January/February, at the start of harvest we were tracking 10 dayslater than 2019. This trend followed throughout the season with the finalfruit coming in during mid-April. Yields were below average in shiraz andcabernet but healthy crops on most other varieties. 2020 whites are showingdelicacy in their aromatics, with fresh natural acidity. The 2020 reds aredisplaying bright red-fruited fragrance with great intensity on the palate. The resulting wines have an even tannin structure giving depth andlongevity with an elegance of fruit.

This wine is made in the traditional manner; fermented in open tanks andhand plunged, and matured in French oak hogsheads. The Estate Shiraz hasimpressive fruit intensity, yet is elegant and will reward further cellaring.

Shiraz has been Coriole’s principle variety and flagship wine since the first bottling in 1970. Coriole Shiraz is 100%Estate grown and the average vine age is 50 years old.

Food Pairing: A classic dish for a classic wine - try with a scotch fillet steak served ladenwith pepper sauce and all the usual trimmings.
