"It's nicely ripe and fragrant on the nose showing red plum, raspberry, clove and green olive notes, followed by a beautifully rounded palate offering elegant weight and smooth mouthfeel, making it approachable and friendly for easy drinking. At its best: now to 2024" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2022

Showing classic Nero d’Avola profile with lifted savoury aromatics and plush fruit intensity. Plum and black cherry aromas add richness with seductive hints of dark chocolate, brown spices and a herbal edge that is so typical of the region. The wine has a plushness of berries finishing long and dry with savoury notes and freshness of acidity. The tannins are soft and deliver a crowd-pleasing style.

2020 will be seen as a fair vintage for Sicily with no major issues, being dry in winter with no drought. There was no unusual heat wave but a cold snap in March slowed down the growth cycle. June and July saw just heat and sun and a little rain. At the end of July temperatures dropped and an unusual rainfall episode re-balanced reserves of moisture. The quality of the grapes was deemed excellent as was the aromatic profiles.

Hand harvested in the cool of the morning, fermented in open top fermenters with plunging by hand and addtitonal time on skins to ensure colour and flavour extraction. Fermented slowly and then transferred into a combination of larger format oak and stainless steel for maturation. The wine was then blended and bottled with minimal fining and filtration.

On the far north-western tip of Sicily and sitting above the ancient city of Erice, are the beautiful vineyards striving to produce wines of expression and typicity. Older, low yielding vines that are farmed organically and painstakingly hand-harvested, here are an expression of love for an ancient way of life in an ancient land.

Food Pairing: pairs perfectly with pasta.
