Coopers Creek Kumeu Rosé 2021
Description
- Dry style
- Summer red fruit
- Juicy acidity
- Full-bodied
At bottling this wine was a delightful pale pink. At the edge it has a pale purple iridescence. This is from Malbec. We call it the ‘Malbec ring of confidence’. Clean and fresh and dominated by summer red fruit aromas. This wine is full-bodied for a Rosé. It has real richness and weight on the palate. It has a refreshingly juicy acid profile and a dry finish. Rosés are usually best drunk when they are young and fresh. However, experience tells us that our Huapai Rosés age very well.
Kumeu had yet another great vintage in 2021, the third in a row. This allowed us to hand harvest our Malbec and Merlot in pristine condition over a couple of days in mid-March. The fruit was lightly whole bunch pressed, and cold settled prior to fermentation. 10% was racked to neutral oak barrels where it was fermented and aged on yeast lees for 6 months creating a rounder, creamy pallet, and light brioche aromas. The rest of the juice was fermented in a refrigerated stainless steel tank. The slow, cool fermentation locked in the fresh fruit aromas. Following maturation, the wines were blended, fined, and filtered.
