"A complex and enticing bouquet of ripe fruits and toasty wood, a mineral laden earthy quality and completeness that can only come from site and excellent winemaking. A decisive concentration on the nose of dark berries and baking spices, roasted clay earth and violets. This leads to further aromas then flavours on the palate of blackberry and roasted plums, dark chocolate and flavours of toasty barrel. Full-bodied, taut, firm textures, dry and with a back bone of acidity. Delicious, new, taut and lengthy, a wine that punches well above its weight. A wine for drinking now with the right food or continue to cellar till 2027 then drink through 2039" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Mar 2023
The deep magenta colour shows vibrancy and hints of the rich, expressive wine to come. The aromatics are opulent, with a perfume of violets, dark soy, hints of spice and the warm, comforting mélange of black fruits. The palate is eloquent with blackcurrants, red plums and clove spice melding with dark chocolate. The wine has a beautiful structure with fine tannins, balanced acidity and a lingering finish.
The Menzies Vineyard, Yalumba’s premium Cabernet Sauvignon estate, was established in the world-famous region of Coonawarra in 1975. The terroir is defined by red brown earth over limestone, perfect for growing grapes for full-bodied, structured red wine.
The 2019 vintage in Coonawarra has been highly regarded by winemakers. It was a cool winter with average rainfalls. This encouraged the growth of healthy canopies and set the vines up well for the growing season. Summer was full of sunshine and dry weather. The famous Bonney upwelling played its part, cooling summer temperatures to produce Cabernet Sauvignon that is deep and rich in colour with great varietal definition.
Food Pairing: Barbecued lamb loin chops or chickpea, mushroom and pine nut burgers with a red onion and tomato salsa.
