Description

  • French oak
  • Stone fruit
  • Butterscotch
  • Elegant

A light straw gold colour will fill your glass. While most of the 2022 ‘Bergman’ Chardonnay is barrel fermented, it is still fruit driven with pronounced stonefruit, butterscotch and subtle oak toast notes. The fruit is generous, yet the Bergman Chardonnay retains an elegance and makes a statement. Due to its structure, the 2022 ‘Bergman’ is an excellent food wine. It is inviting now and delivers on the promise.

All the grapes for the ‘Bergman’ Chardonnay are estate grown. They were harvested from Ohiti Estate which is owned by Brookfields Vineyards, and from of course the Brookfields home block, adjacent to the winery. The ‘Bergman’ Chardonnay takes its name from the ‘Ingrid Bergman’ Roses which are planted in front of the winery. The Ohiti Estate grapes were harvested on the 10th & 16th of March.

Immediately after harvesting the grapes, they were pressed and the juice was chilled. Following settling the juice was racked into predominantly French oak barrels for fermentation and subsequent aging on its own lees. Traditional fermentation was with indigenous yeast. There was partial malolactic fermentation. The total time in oak was 6 months.

Food Pairing: Chicken fettucine and a mild creamy sauce.
