Dark cherry red. A bright and lively expression of shiraz. A myriad of fresh forest fruits evident, cherry, mulberry and blueberry. Aromatic spices develop with time in the glass. The freshness carries through to the palate, dominated by red and blue fruits... hallmark Eastside. The liveliness and freshness of the acid strucutre elevates the red fruit. Medium weighted and it ‘rolls’ over the palate seamlessly from front to back. Careful selection of oak provides a fine grained, savoury tannin structure that merges with the bright acid core to create a long, balanced finish. Shiraz in the Clare Valley is produced in a spectrum of styles, the best of which are balanced and approachable. The ‘Eastside’ is delicious to drink upon release and will reward cellaring for next 7-15 years.
Good winter rain allowed soil profiles to be full, giving the vines a great start to the growing season. A remarkably cool summer followed, providing perfect conditions for healthy balanced vines. The long ripening period produce fruit with a perfect balance of good colour, high natural acidity, and concentrated flavours. This wine is an excellent showcase for the unique expression of Shiraz grown on our Estate. A combination of inoculated and spontaneous fermentation on skins for an average of 14 days in open vats. Gentle cap management to retain elegant tannin and aromatic qualities.
Pikes Wines is grounded by family. From brothers to sons, since 1984 when the Pike family first stepped foot on Polish Hill River soil and decided to make wine together.
Our site is unique, with tough acidic soils overlaying ancient dark grey siltstone of the Kadlunga Slate formation, which has lay beneath Polish Hill River for 650 million years. Our wine style is elegant and refined, yet approachable. A style that has been forged over many years by geology and geography, viticultural learnings, and a hands-off winemaking approach.
Food Pairing: Perfect accompaniment with Steak Frites.
