Description
- French oak
- Blackberry
- Rich florals
- Chalky tannins
"This is gracefully rich and enticing on the nose showing blackberry, rich floral, olive and cedary oak characters, followed by an impressively concentrated palate delivering refined texture and chalky tannins. Multi-layered and gorgeously complex with superb structure and presence. At its best: 2024 to 2037" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2022
''Blackberries, crushed stone, slate and bark aromas and flavors. It’s full and flavorful with layers of fruit and polished tannins. Serious shiraz. Drink or hold" James Suckling, Jamessuckling.com, Oct 2022
''The Mayor's vineyard was planted by a former Mayor of Adelaide in 1969, at 500 meters in elevation on the eastern ridge of Clare Valley. Red loam and slate define the soils here, and that ferrous grunt and minerality go hand in hand in the glass. This 2020 The Mayor's Vineyard Shiraz is an exceptionally savory, layered Shiraz with red dirt, hung deli meat, some oolong tea and salted mulberries at the fore. This is a wonderful wine, at the beginning of its life" Erin Larkin, Advocate, Sep 2022
Aromas of blue berry, perfume and spice concentrate the nose, with elegant floral undertones providing lift. The palate is long and full of flavour, with a tight tannin profile and framework for the fruit to extend. Excellent tension and precise use of oak will see this wine age amongst the best in its class.
Situated at just over 500m in altitude, the vines of The Mayors Vineyard, in the North East of the Clare Valley provide the fruit for this single vineyard wine. The 52 year old vines were hand harvested and individual blocks kept separate through vinification. The vineyards soils of red loam are dotted with slate and have long produced Shiraz displaying a wonderful balance between savoury aspects and fruit purity.
