Description

  • Black Doris plum
  • Toasted nut
  • Barrel spice
  • Fine tannins

"It's brightly fruited and beautifully fragrant, showing Black Doris plum, blackcurrant, dried herb, toasted nut and floral aromas on the nose. The palate displays supple mouthfeel and succulent fruit flavours, complemented by spicy nuances and fine tannins. Splendidly composed and flavoursome. A blend of 44% cabernet sauvignon, 29% cabernet franc, 24% merlot and 3% tempranillo" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2020

"I tasted this wine in October 2020 - so it’s great to be able to try it again six months later. Still youth and fresh with aromas and flavours of black currant and olive, blackberry and dark plum. Some toasty barrel spices of clove and baked vanilla add complexity and depth along with a mild tobacco note. Medium+ weight and intensity on the palate with dark fruit flavours that reflect the bouquet. Firm tannins and acidity ensure this wine has a decent foundation and will reward those who cellar this wine till end of 2022. Lengthy finish with a core of fruit, texture and flavour. Best drinking 2022 through 2026+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Apr 2021

Made in a “Left Bank” – Cabernet Sauvignon dominant style, this wine is rich in dark plummy fruits, some herbal complexity and beautifully layered with silky tannins, black liquorice, and smoky spice. Notes of black fruit, cassis, and tobacco are supported by cedar, spice, and beautiful floral elements.

Grown in the famed Hawkes Bay region of the Gimblett Gravels. The distinct lack of soil, almost exclusively consisting of gravels deposited by the old Ngaruroro River in the great floods of the 1860s gives a very special micro-climate. Typically, wines from this area will show a distinctly different tannin profile than other areas of the Bay. Ripe, fine tannins are the unmistakable calling card of the Gimblett Gravels growing region.

2019 was an exceptional year for Hawke’s Bay. Long warm days and cool evening temperatures meant that the flavour development was not outpaced by sugar ripeness. Wines from this vintage have great fruit concentration and natural acidity without over-the-top alcohols.

Food Pairing: This wine is ideal for food pairings; try it with BBQ and smoked meats like ribs, steak or brisket. Equally, try this wine with nutty cheeses and mushroom dishes.
