Description

  • Dry style
  • Fripe fruit
  • Citrus florals
  • Fine acidity

"A blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling, Viognier and Gewurztraminer the bouquet is filled with myriad scents of citrus and white spice, apple and white flesh stone fruits all laced flowers and complex lees qualities. A dry wine touches the palate with a fine tannin texture and backbone of acidity. Lush and salivating, dry, myriad fruit flavours and textures, an exciting wine style with plenty of food paring qualities. Best drinking from 2024 through 2030+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Nov 2023

"The 2022 vintage (4.5*) is a highly characterful blend of Riesling (62 per cent), Pinot Gris (34 per cent), Viognier (3.6 per cent) and Gewürztraminer (0.4 per cent). Estate-grown and hand-harvested in the Raupo Creek Vineyard, in the Omaka Valley, the grapes were co-fermented in old French oak barriques. Bright, light yellow/green, it is a fresh, vigorous, medium-bodied wine, with very good intensity of peachy, citrusy, gently spicy flavours, considerable complexity, and a crisp, fully dry (0.5 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish" Michael Cooper, Jul 2023

A charming dry white wine that marries the very best attributes of the aromatic varieties that thrive beautifully together on the Raupo vineyard. Notes of ripe autumnal fruits, citrus flowers and exotic fruit prevail on the nose. The palate shows many dimensions, with great concentration of fruit and structure, balanced with a fine delicacy and elegance, and finishing with a focused acidity.

Our clay rich Raupo Creek vineyard, farmed following organic and biodynamic principles is located in the centre of the Omaka Valley. This vineyard has a gentle north-west facing aspect and enjoys high sunshine hours and minimal rain.

Despite the challenging season that Mother Nature provided early on, the vineyard at Raupo shone, looking remarkably vibrant, alive and healthy. We were blessed also with a lovely even flowering so the bunches in general were smaller and evenly spread across the canopy, and naturally low. Smaller berries and bunches certainly gave a level of concentration that was welcomed. The season was not easy, and certainly wet in the months leading up to harvest; so to see the cleanliness of the fruit was very encouraging. This was a direct result of the judicious management by our vineyard team, who worked tirelessly all season despite the weather. Luckily, for the first time in several years, for the whole harvest period, we had a run of very dry, settled weather which enabled the team to harvest each plot exactly when we wished.

A blend for four varietals, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Viognier and Gewürztraminer. The Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer were picked together followed by the Riesling and Viognier five days later. Both juices were settled and then blended together to allow for co-fermentation in neutral oak barrels. The wine rested in barrel for 8 months undergoing full malolactic fermentation prior to being bottled in January.
