- Plump tannins
"Whole-berry wild fermentation in concrete, both small open-topped and large closed fermenters. Left 14 days on skins, matured 14 months in French barriques (30% new). Often cited as a benchmark cool-climate shiraz, there’s no denying this is yet another impressive, elegant shiraz from a strong vintage. Boasts refined richness and a depth of flavour that is well-matched to a vivacious personality. Fruit is the star, with flecks of pepper and spice assisted by plump tannins. That’s a WOW!" Halliday Wine Companion 2022
"I dig this. Cool climate Shiraz hitting the high hats. It’s unashamedly generous and layered with interest yet slides down with ease. Winning! With a plummy drive, chocdipped raspberries and squishy blueberries go about their work. Christmas cake and fruit bun spices coil around the mouth. Give it a decant or a good swirl to see it at its best. Do this and it opens up aromatically and enables its true personality to shine through. A touch of clove and Five Spice rush late. The oak is a touch forward for now but it will calm. All up, it’s a beauty and a wine that will continue to reward for many years. Top stuff and very reasonably priced for an age-worthy wine" Q Wines Reviews, qwinereviews.com, Jan 2023
"There is such a vibrant energy and purity about the shiraz from this vineyard. This one is excellent with lively red fruit characters on the nose and a little spicy cool climate character. Aromas of plum and cherry with just a hint of African violet. The palate is quite tightly structured with the fine chalky tannins holding the whole thing together Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot, Jan 2023
Bright medium garnet. Blackberry, black cherries, vanilla, tar and baking spice. Raspberries, red currant, red liquorice and blackberry mix on the palate with baking spice and mocha notes. Pure, acid drive and silky tannins.
The 2020 Cliff Edge Shiraz is sourced from a selection of blocks across the historic Mount Langi Ghiran vineyard situated in the Grampians region of Victoria. The combination of Langi’s cool climates, old vines and granite soils produces Shiraz with great intensity, purity and finesse.
100% whole berry ferments in both small open, and large, open-top concrete fermenters. A mixture of plunging and pump-overs during an average of two weeks on skins. Natural yeasts were used and once ferment was complete, the wines were pressed to tank to settle overnight and then transferred to barrels to complete MLF.
