Description

  • Dry style
  • Wild berries
  • Ripe orchard fruit
  • Delicate & poised

"Certified organic, the distinctive 2022 vintage was estate-grown in the Raupo Creek Vineyard and handled for four months in old oak barriques. Very fresh, mouthfilling and dry, it is refined and subtle, with strawberry, peach, orange and spice flavours, showing excellent vigour, delicacy, poise and length" Michael Cooper, Jan 2023

"Fragrant, fruity and floral bouquet with a fine savoury quality and layer of minerality adding complexity. Flavours on the palate include red apple and cherry flesh, there’s a light tropical fruits medley adding some breadth. Dry, crisp and fruity with a fresh appeal and fine tannin light savoury quality" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Jan 2023

"The 2022 Rosé Pinot Noir Zosia is super-pale in a Provençal way but it has much more character weight and structure than the hue would suggest. Wild fermented and aged in neutral barrels over four months, this is a dry, textural and lightly savory style offering satisfying grip. It’s from Marlborough so you would expect a crisp vibrancy, but it does way more than that. I really like this for not being another red fruited, anodyne rosé. A nice choice for somms looking for interesting food matches" Rebecca Gibb, Master of Wine, Apr 2023

A truly charming and graceful Rosé that has been crafted to wholly represent a small, special plot of Pinot Noir within the Raupo Creek vineyard.Highly aromatic, brimming with classic Pinot Noir Rosé notes of wild berry fruits, and ripe orchard fruits. Exudes elegance and purity on the palate, yet is highly textural and layered. Finishes dry, with a refreshing acidity that creates tension and completes the wine.

Our clay rich Raupo vineyard, farmed following organic and biodynamic principles is located in the centre of the Omaka Valley. This vineyard has a gentle north-west facing aspect and enjoys high sunshine hours and minimal rain.

2022 will be remembered for its challenging nature, which kept us on our toes after a run of remarkably effortless vintages in a row. Dry, stable weather over flowering lead to an abundant fruit set, and with consistent small rain events we enjoyed fantastic vigour across the whole vineyard. Leading into the harvest period the region endured some significant rainfall events, which increased berry and bunch size, but also disease pressure, unfortunately. Luckily we had an excellent team working tirelessly in the vineyard to mitigate this and also crop thin throughout the whole vineyard, with an extra focus on the Pinot Noir. We started picking Pinot Noir on 16th March and finished picking with a botrytis style Riesling on 19th May. It must be said, after the early and fast and furious nature of the previous vintages, a vintage that was a touch later and spread out between each variety was really welcomed. With a great picking team and a focus solely on the Raupo vineyard, we were able to pick each plot before any real disease pressure took a hold.

Pristine Pinot Noir grapes, all from a single plot in the Raupo Creek vineyard, were hand-picked under cool morning conditions. The fruit was loaded directly into the press, gently pressed and settled overnight naturally, then racked to neutral oak barriques. Wild fermentation took place and the batch remained on full lees for three months after fermentation, prior to racking and a sulphur addition. As a result, partial malolactic fermentation has taken place, also wild. The wine was then blended and filtered, prior to bottling.
