Domaine de Bargylus Grand Vin de Syrie Red 2016 (Syria)
Description
- Dark fruit
- White pepper
- Soft tannins
- Balanced acidity
"Blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot grown at altitude inland from Syria's main port of Lattakia. Still a fairly deep crimson. Heady, richly spicy nose that recalls some reds grown in nearby Lebanon. Powerful but balanced and with a streak of sweet balsamic running through it (but it's not remotely vinegary!). Tannins nicely receded and sufficient acidity" Jancis Robinson
Bargylus Red wine is a perfect fusion of power and elegance, characterized by its vibrant color and a distinct aromatic essence that reflects the fresh fruit and mineral qualities of the stony soil. Additionally, Domaine de Bargylus vineyard is recognized for its organic certification.
The Johnny R. Saadé family owns Domaine de Bargylus, the sole prestigious wine producer in Syria. Historically mentioned by the Elder, Mount-Bargylus, presently known as Jebel Al-Ansariyé, extends from the Orontes Valley near old Antioch to the south of ancient Emesa, in the Eleutherus Valley. This area, lying in the outskirts of Latakia, was once densely planted with vineyards during the Greco-Roman times.
