AWARDED 93/100 POINTS: Decanter Magazine
AWARDED 90/100 POINTS: James Suckling
"This delicious, soft, characterful, everyday-drinking wine illustrates just why Rioja is Spain’s most popular red wine" Steve Bennett MW, Importer
Aldenueva Cooperative is from the village of the same name in the Rioja Baja region. Out of the 2500 inhabitants of the village, 900 are farmers who are members of the cooperative and sell their grapes to them. The vineyards are on different altitudes and soil types and, some of the vines are between 50 and 100 years old which all add to the complexity of the wines. Quality is paramount at the winery and they test both the grapes and wine at varying stages of the process to ensure the best quality possible.
1 x Tavernello Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2022 (Italy)
AWARDED 90/100 POINTS: Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
"A layer of old-school, old world scents are enticing with clay and terracotta. Aromas of fresh and sour cherry, plum and blackberry lead to flavours of the same. A gently firm grab on the palate with tannins and acidity pushing the youth of this wine into focus, fruit flavours of red berries and plum plus an tart cherry note all speak to the variety and style" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier
Tavernello is Caviro’s flagship brand and is the number-one wine brand in Italy. The excellent value of Tavernello comes from combining generations of Italian tradition with modern winemaking techniques. Enjoyed by Italian families for over 30 years, the wines are approachable varietals and blends that celebrate and represent the Italian lifestyle. The exceptional quality and value for money makes Tavernello’s wines ideal everyday drinkers.
This soft and approachable Montepulciano offers excellent middleweight drinking - with flavours in the mocha and blueberry spectrum.
1 x Mesta Organic Tempranillo 2023 (Spain)
Produced with Spain’s number one grape, Tempranillo (temp-rah-knee-oh) from organically farmed vineyards in the La Mancha region, central Spain. There’s no oak ageing going on in Mesta Organic Tempranillo – this is all about the pure, juicy, vibrant red berry fruit flavours. It even has a Kiwi connection with NZ Master of Wine Sam Harrop lending a hand with the winemaking.
A vibrant and juicy, unoaked red wine, showing great purity and the typicity of high-altitude Tempranillo, with expressive and well-defined aromas of red berries, rosemary and a touch of liquorice. Bright ruby red colour. Fresh and with an excellent persistence on the palate, with round texture and a satisfyingly dry finish. Very versatile, medium-bodied food wine, excellent with tapas, grilled meat and pasta.
