Description

  • Dark berry fruit
  • Exotic spices
  • Violet florals
  • Ripe tannins

"It’s richly fruited and superbly aromatic on the nose with dark fruit intensity, smoked game, spicy oak and espresso notes, followed by a powerfully expressed palate that’s filled with ripe fruit flavours combined with spicy nuances, finishing sturdy and lingering. From the Gimblett Gravels district. At its best: 2025 to 2036" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2023

"Dense wine with a chewy texture and flavours that suggest red-fleshed plum, baked earth, spice/anise and vanilla. This is a seamless and appealing wine with a sweet and fruity core that perfectly balances a firm structure of ripe tannins" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Jan 2024

"A powerful fruit centric beginning with aromas of blue and black fruits, chocolate and freshly roasted coffee bean, clove and vanilla pod, some anise, five spice and roasted Brazil-nut. There’s lift from the alcohol and  plenty of barrel-sweet scents. Juicy, fresh, deeply fruity, salivating, ripe and powerful on the palate. Bold chewy tannins and plenty of acidity set a firm foundation for the core and richness of fruits and oak intensity. Flavours of clove and chocolate, vanilla and toasty barrel sit nicely alongside the core of fruits. Lengthy, complex and delicious with best drinking likely from 2028 through 2040. This is no training wine and will need the exact right food to calm the youthful energy, definitely some cellar time and a very large glass to draw from" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Aug 2023

A robust and characterful red with generous, juicy, dark berry fruit, lifted violet floral notes and exotic spice typical of this block. The palate is full bodied with good mid palate richness, and chunky, ripe tannins with a slight rustic edge.

The same grape variety grown in different sites in the same region or sub region, can demonstrate uniquely different characteristics related to those individual sites. Even if the grapes are grown by the same people, with the same care and attention, changes in soil, slope, altitude and shelter can subtly or dramatically alter the resulting wine, even over distances of a few hundred metres or less. Church Road One is a range of single vineyard wines that typify the character and personality of their best winegrowing sites.

Food Pairing: Well matched to a range of meat and game. Particularly grilled meats which will pair beautifully with the ripe and robust tannin structure.
