"Beautifully fruited with stylish complexity, the wine shows golden peach, mango, vanillin oak and brioche notes on the nose. The palate delivers succulent fruit intensity with creamy texture and well-pitched acidity, finishing long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2027" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2024
"Golden hues lead to a bouquet of creaminess and style, aromas of baked peaches and nectarines, apples and grapefruit. There’s layers of wood smoke and spice leading to a familiar scents of nut and burnt bitter. Full-bodied and creamy in texture, a wine that ticks the boxes of weight and mouthfeel that so many Chardonnay drinks look for. A decent acid line with all the flavours that the bouquet suggests, a texture from fine tannins which emerges as the wine layers up on the palate. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2028" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Nov 2024
This Chardonnay shows a but of colour, starting pale in the glass at bottling but gradually deepening over time. The bouquet is profound, with a blend of vanilla, cream, sweet lemon, grapefruit, hazelnut, and a hint of spicy oak. On the palate, it's powerful - a fresh, well balanced Chardonnay with weight, sweet fruit, beautiful texture, and impressive length.
The 2023 Limeworks Chardonnay is a meticulously crafted wine from Limeworks Vineyard, located on Middle Road in Havelock North, Hawke's Bay. The vineyard features loess over limestone soil and has vines aged between 12 and 35 years. The grapes were harvested on 25 March 2023 using a Braun machine. This barrel-fermented Chardonnay benefits from a mix of new and older American and French oak barrels, contributing to its complex profile. The wine underwent 100% malolactic fermentation and spent 10 months in oak, followed by additional maturation in a tank. The yeast used includes a combination of wild vineyard yeast, D47, and CY3079. The vineyard's unique soil and aspect, along with the diverse yeast strains and oak blend, give this Chardonnay its distinctive character.
Food Pairing: The wine is already approachable, but will cellar happily into the medium term in a cool environment. The oak ageing makes this wine an excellent match with full-flavoured rich dishes, in particular poultry, pork, salmon and crayfish.
