Description

A complex aroma of cassis, berry fruits and liquorice. Sweet, rounded flavours of blackberry and currants, mocha and savoury thyme that delivers great length to the palate. An exquisitely balanced Cabernet that has a lifted, floral bouquet showing lovely delicacy but also depth and power. Bottled under screwcap to ensure even and slow maturation. Decanting the young wine will open up the layers of aroma and flavour. Take some time to savour your glass as the wine reveals its many facets. Already delectable now, cellaring will further soften the tannin while increasing integration of oak flavours with added layers of complexity from bottle age. 5+ years.

Since 1989, Alpha Domus has been dedicated to creating wines with exceptional craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to quality. A small independent New Zealand owned winery, the name 'Alpha' is derived from our founders, while 'Domus,' from Latin, represents home.

Grown on our Bride Pa loam soil, 100% clone LC10 Cabernet planted in 2013. Vines were pruned to lower bud numbers, and no manual labour is spared in the vineyard. Shoot thinning, shoot positioning, lateral and bunch thinning are just a few of the passes we make through the vineyard. Seasonal adjustments are made in yields to guarantee excellent fruit ripeness and concentration. Physiological ripeness is the main criteria determining harvest date. Grown using organic practices this is an in transition to certified organic wine.

The grapes were carefully harvested and processed quickly into the winery at perfect ripeness. Traditional Bordeaux winemaking practices are combined with methods that enhance the best of Hawke’s Bay terroir. Regular wetting of the cap with aerative pumpovers has extracted exquisite tannin and colour. Extended skin contact has mellowed the structure further. The wine was pressed off to complete malolactic fermentation in tank. Once MLF was complete the wine was matured in 100% French oak barriques.
