The concentrated palate displays brilliant focus and drive, wonderfully complemented by excellent fruit purity and bright acidity. Mouthfilling and lingering with delectable flavours. The 2024 Tamāhine bursts with a vibrant bouquet of citrus, green apple, and tropical fruits, layered with hints of crushed stone. A richer, more textured palate unfolds, balancing bright acidity with flavours of lemon zest, ripe pear, and passionfruit. Marlborough’s signature minerality shines through, complemented by fresh-cut grass, lemongrass, and a subtle, lingering smokiness that adds depth to the long, complex finish. Almost too good to share—be sure to savour every drop with your whānau and friends!
Tamāhine (pronounced ta-maa-hi-ne) was the name of the first ferry connecting New Zealand’s North and South Islands, making its way through the stunning yet challenging waters of the Marlborough Sounds and the turbulent Cook Strait—a true unsung hero. Like the Tamāhine, this wine is both complex and unconventional, paying homage to winemaking traditions while pushing the boundaries of Marlborough’s Sauvignon Blanc.
Tamāhine reveals a richer, more refined side of this iconic variety, highlighting its impressive cellaring potential. Crafted from perfectly ripe fruit, the wine is fermented and aged for 7 months in a mix of 30% new French oak barriques and 70% older barrels. The result is a magnificent wine with exceptional complexity, depth, and texture, while maintaining the purity of its fruit flavours and refreshing vibrancy.
Food Pairing: This wine pairs wonderfully with rich dishes like buttery grilled crayfish (lobster), crab bisque, or creamy seafood pasta. For meat lovers, its acidity balances the richness of roasted duck or pork belly, enhancing their savoury depth. Earthy dishes, such as mushroom risotto or truffle-infused recipes, also work well, with the wine’s oak influence complementing the creamy textures.
