Description
'Run by the young Roman Roche, who’s aided by Philippe Cambie, Domaine Roche is quickly becoming one of my favorite estates in Cairanne.' Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
'A beautiful effort, the 2013 Cairanne (70% Grenache and 30% Syrah aged 80% in concrete tank and 20% in barrique) is a pretty, polished Cairanne that has a seamless, silky profile that's hard to resist. Giving up plenty of black raspberry, creamy licorice, sweet garrigue and hints of more savory truffle and soy sauce, it's medium-bodied, moderately concentrated and balanced, with fine tannin lending focus on the finish. As with a lot of the 2013, this shines for its freshness, suppleness and forward character, and should be consumed over the coming 2-4 years.'
Wines have been made in the village of Cairanne - founded by the Knights Templar - for centuries. In Roman's vineyards famous Châteauneuf style galets, or pudding stones, trap heat during the day and release it to the vines at night, helping to ripen grapes to perfection. Grenache brings plump red fruit and white pepper character to the blend, while Syrah introduces succulent blackberry notes and a savoury, spicy edge. Decant to show this wine off at its best and serve with hearty roast game (a favourite in the Rhône) or rack of lamb.
