Description
"This is instantly appealing on the nose showing nectarine, rockmelon, vanilla and cedar characters with a hint of brioche complexity. The palate is succulent and beautifully rounded, and delivers excellent fruit intensity backed by bright acidity, finishing persistent and creamy. At its best: now to 2019." Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jan 2017
Produced from the Home Block and The Angler vineyard on the banks of the Wairau River. The grapes were carefully hand harvested in the early hours of the morning and returned to the winery in small bins. After gentle whole-bunch pressing the juice was fermented in a mix of new and old French and American oak barrels with a small portion in stainless steel. Free run was kept separate from the pressings and 90% was fermented with cultured yeast. The barrel portion of the blend went through full malolactic fermentation. After 10 months the wine was blended and left to settle before bottling on the Wairau River Estate.
The nose displays fruitful aromas of nectarine and citrus, complemented by delicate floral and savoury notes. These characters translate generously through the palate with lime, ripe peach and biscuit flavours supported by fine mineral acidity and finely integrated French oak.
