Description
The wine has a long, soft and juicy palate and lush mouth feel, bursting with nuances of blackberry, milk chocolate and liquorice. This wine delivers an exceptional McLaren Vale Shiraz experience and will be best enjoyed over the next 7 years.
The Shiraz grapes used to make ‘The Truant has been sourced from select vineyards in McLaren Vale. With dominant winter rainfall and warm, dry summers of low humidity tempered by the proximity to the Gulf St. Vincent, McLaren Vale has one of the most consistent climates in which to grow premium wine grapes, particularly Shiraz.
John William Riggs was born in Dorset 1814, and was the ‘Mr. Riggs’ – Ben’s great- great- great grandfather. This influential man was a person who didn’t think highly of the school curriculum, but often focused more on wagging school. He managed to wag school at the age of seven, then commenced working for a living at the pricey rate of one shilling a week.
This was however only a minor inconvenience for ‘The Truant’ who signed with an ‘X’. In time, he became master of one of South Australia’s outstanding farming enterprises in the early years of settlement.
