Description
"This is fruit expressive and savoury at the same time; the lifted bouquet shows spiced cherry, smoked game, mushroom and toasted almond characters, leading to a beautifully weighted palate that is finely textured and attractively fruited, wonderfully complemented by spicy/savoury nuances and polished tannins." Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
The nose is expressive and fruit-driven with ripe berry aromas, darker briary notes and hints of spicy oak. The palate is fresh and spicy with seductive red berry and varietal cherry cola flavours, fine tannins and classy oak leading to a very long finish.
For almost a decade Elefante has brought the fire and passion of Spain wine to life. Arange of modern Spanish wines created by Riojan winemaker Javier Murua and sourced from Castilla la Mancha, each wine is crafted with a contemporary philosophy, delivering rich and approachable fruit-driven flavours that capture the passion and excitement of the Spanish culture.
Castilla la Mancha, the setting of Miguel de Cervantes’ novel Don Quixote, is the spiritual heart of Spain. The rugged plains are dotted with windmills, olive groves and historic cities. The region’s famed cuisine is highlighted by Manchego cheese and full bodied wines. These vast, high and dry plains of Castilla la Mancha comprise over 50% of Spain's vineyards. The ancient soils and high altitude ensure the richly flavoured fruit maintains structure and tannin. Vineyards planted on the slopes of mountain ranges in the North & North-East add a degree of elegance to the wines. The 2015 vintage, after several uncertain and inconsistent vintages, was a breath of rather warm air. A very hot and dry vintage with record breaking July temperatures was mderated by the high altitude of Manchuela and the age of the vineyards. Light rain and cooler weather in Autumn revitalised the vines before a trouble free harvest with outstanding, intensely flavoured fruit. The grapes post this harvest were 100% detstemmed and cold soaked for a short period before along cool fermentation with daily pump-overs to achieve the optimum fruit flavour and colour. The core of the blend was aged in stainless steel before three months maturation in seasoned French & American oak.
