Description
"The wine combines plump shiraz fruit with firm cabernet, showing beautifully lifted aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, cigar box, warm spice and cedar on the nose. The palate delivers excellent fruit richness and intensity, together with supple mouthfeel and silky tannins. Wonderfullye xpressive and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2022" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2017
"This pretty blend shows dark berry, chocolate and spice character. Full body, round, juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Tight and toned" Nick Stock & James Suckling, July 2017
"Dark, deep, black-hued ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. This has afresh, full and gently voluminous nose of dark-red berry fruits and a layering of blackcurrants, fresh herbs and black pepper elements. The aromatics build in depth in the glass. Medium-fullbodied, the palate possesses fresh and bright, primary fruit flavours of blackcurrants and fresh herbs, along with a little leaf, pepper and cedary oak notes. The mouthfeelis fresh and crisp with lively acidity, and the fruit is supported by light, supple tannin extraction. This has sweetness and energy, and the wine carries to a moderately lingering finish of blackcurrants, herbs and pepper. This is a fresh, bright, primary-fruited Shiraz/Cabernet blend with blackcurrant and herb notes on a refreshing palate with supple tannins. Match with Mediterranean fare over the next 3+years. A blend of 65% Shirazand 35% Cabernet Sauvignon from Langhorne Creek, Currency Creek and Fleurieu Peninsula fermented to 14.5% alc., with selected parcels aged in seasoned French and American oak" Raymond Chan, August 2017
Deep plum with a bright crimson edge in the glass. Bouquet is bright, ripe raspberry and sweet mulberry fruits, laced with fragrant cabernet leaf and dried herbs.
Whilst the palate is juicy red berries, ripe blue and black fruits as well as blood plum richness. The generous fleshy fruits are supported by supple tannins and provide a wine with great flavour, freshness and balance.
When the late Greg Trott christened a flat, barren landscape at the front of our winery ‘Scrubby Rise’, he started a theme that things aren’t always as they seem at Wirra Wirra. In keeping with Trott’s laid back Aussie humour, today the vineyard is overlooked by a viewing platform known as ‘The Jetty’, while a well dressed gent in a red boat rows between the vines. The message is not to take life too seriously.
Individual vineyard parcels were crushed and destemmed to stainless static red fermenters. Pumpovers were tailored daily, dependent upon levels of colour, flavour and tannin extraction. Once the desired levels were achieved the ferment was pressed off skins. Select parcels underwent maturation in seasoned French & American oak before blending.
Food Pairing: Lamb shoulder with Mediterranean spices, roast zucchini, squash and capsicum.
