Description

"This immensely appealing shiraz shows blackberry, Black Doris plum, cocoa, cedar and cake spice aromas on the nose, leading to a concentrated palate that is wonderfully flavoursome and persistent. It is mouthfilling and velvety, making it irresistibly delicious" Wine Orbit

These winemakers have identified varying expressions of this classic varietal to blend together seamlessly, delivering a complex and layered wine with fruit intensity and suppleness. Aromas of mocha and liquorice notes lead to a full-bodied Shiraz with juicy raspberry and dark plum flavours supported by spice from time in barrel. A silky soft finish, this wine can be cellared until 2024.

The 2017 vintage started after a long, wet winter. The resulting damp soils coupled with a cooler sprint meant the vines developed slower than usual. Summer had average temperatures with two short heat bursts and well timed rains. March saw the beginning of an Indian Summer, which allowed for consistent ripening, colour development and good natural acidity.

High quality parcels of fruit are selected from a diverse range of Shiraz vineyards throughout the Barossa Valley, to produce THE Barossan.

Fermented and macerated on skins for up to two weeks, with partial barrel fermentation. Following processing and clarification, the wine matured in a combination of 1-5 year old French and American 300L oak hogsheads for 12 months prior to bottling.

Crafted by the next generation of Peter Lehmann winemakers, THE Barossan showcases the superb fruit sourced from the many fabled sub-regions across the Barossa Valley. A selection of the Barossa’s key growers, renowned for their quality and skill, have shared their passion and pristine fruit to create this quintessential Barossa Shiraz. Each parcel speaks to its vineyard origins, sharing a special and unique aspect of the sub-region.

Food Pairing: This rich and full-bodied wine deservedly complements the flavours of slow-roasted barbecued steak or braised meats.
