"It's attractively fruited and fragrant, showing mulberry, sweet plum, violet, toasted spice and almond characters. The palate offering lovely weight and fruit intensity, elegantly framed by fine-grained tannins, leading to a lengthy supple finish. At its best: now to 2025" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"Bouncy red with blueberry, red licorice and sweet plum flavours flying throughout. It's an energetic, entertaining with with woodsy spice notes adding yet more charm. Value is high" James Halliday, Wine Companion, 2021
"It’s a good wine, and good value with it. Raspberry, spice, a floral and dried herb perfume, dried beef. Fruity, but shows some restraint, powdery tannin, moderate acidity, flesh and flavour on a moderate finish, slightly briny in the aftertaste. Rock solid SA red" Gary Walsh, Wine Front
Brick red with purple hues. The wine has aromas of cherry, raspberry, vanilla and subtle herb. A medium bodied palate of lifted berry flavours, subtle spices and terrific drive through supple tannins and fine acidity. A perfect pairing with a beef massaman curry or pork belly with roasted fennel.
Sourced from a selection of mature, dry-grown vineyards in McLaren Vale managed by Jim Zerella across Willunga, Seaview and McLaren Flat.
This was a challenging year and so very much makes you think of Australia. It was a warmer vintage with only sporadic rains in some parts causing the berries to ripen sooner than prior years. Through great vineyard, water and canopy management the resultant fruit is bright and flavourful with a soft acidity. This is a vintage showing up front fruit flavours and perfect for drinking from the get-go.
The fruit was hand-harvested in the early morning to avoid the heat of the day. Delivered quickly to the winery for crushing then fermentation in a combination of tank and select parcels to open two tonne fermenters. Post ferment the wine spent 9 months maturation in second use French oak before bottling and release.
