Description

  • Fresh fruit
  • Buttery brioche
  • Vanilla
  • Crisp & generous finish

A silvery gold colour, Grand Bruit is a refined and balanced cuvée revealing the floral nuances of Chardonnay. Delicate floral aromas are rounded out by fresh fruit and hints of buttery brioche and vanilla. Though crisp and light on the palate, it combines freshness with a lingeringly rich, generous finish, preserving its distinctive balance and harmony to the very end.

The ancestry of Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut can be traced back to 1846, when – in response to the preference of British connoisseurs for a drier taste – Maison Perrier-Jouët launched its historic Cuvée K, the world’s first lightly dosed champagne in the style today known as “brut”. According to the House cellar books, Cuvée K was dosed at a sugar level of less than 5% – daringly little for an era when champagnes regularly contained up to 40%. Maison Perrier-Jouët became renowned for its brut champagnes, which it was able to produce owing to the fact that its high-quality grapes required very little added sugar – a philosophy maintained to this day. Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut is the heir to this tradition, and the initiator of the famed Perrier-Jouët style.

A blend of fifty different Crus, Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut expresses the quality and diversity of the House winemaking tradition. Its assemblage creates a balance between the consistency of the Perrier-Jouët style and the effects of the climate of the year. With 12 to 20% of reserve wines added, Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut is dominated by the elegance and finesse of the Chardonnay (20%) from the best vineyards in the Côte des Blancs. The delicate structure is brought by the Pinot Noir (40%) primarily sourced from the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne, but also from the best Crus in the Aube region such as Les Riceys. Pinot Meunier (40%) from the Vallée de la Marne brings harmony, fruit and roundness to the wine.

A vineyard of 65Ha ranked at 99,2% on the Grand Cru scale. There are five main 'Crus' featured in all Perrier-Jouët’s cuvées :Cramant (27Ha) and Avize (9Ha) in the Côte des Blancs, Chardonnay, 100% Grand Cru more than half of the Perrier-Jouët vineyard bring finesse and the typical floral notes (white flowers) style as well as length thanks to an optimum mid-hillside sunlight exposition. Mailly (9Ha) in the North of the Montagne de Reims, Pinot Noir: it brings power and elegance (less heavy than those from Bouzy or Ambonnay) through little red fruit notes. Ay (10Ha) and Dizy (10Ha), in the Vallée de la Marne, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The Pinot Noir from Aÿ bring elegance through its fresh fruits notes. The Pinot Meunier from Dizy (rated at 95%), located on the right bank of the Marne Vallée, brings roundness benefiting from warmer temperature than those from the Ardre Vallée. They bring generosity and are the bridge between Chardonnays and Pinots Noirs.

Food Pairing: Perrier-Jouët Grand Brut can be matched with dishes such as carpaccio of fish or white meats. Its lively vivacity works well with crisp vegetables and tofu.
