Mud House Single Vineyard 'The Mound' Riesling 2018
Description
- Medium-dry style
- Elderflower
- Citrus & stonefruit
- Lime juice acidity
Pale straw appearace with notes of citrus pith, elderflower and stonefruit, with a hint of spice on the nose. The front palate shows bright citrus notes which give way to full flavours of nectarine and honeysuckle. A touch of minerality on the finish ties together the lime juice acidity and slight sweetness.
This Single Vineyard Riesling is sourced from The Mound Vineyard in the Waipara Valley. The vineyard was established in 2002 on terraced gravels that offer little fertility which, along with Waipara's long cool growing season, provide perfect conditions for making world class Riesling.
Settled weather during flowering meant the vines set an even crop at a sensible yield level. The summer was for the most part dry and warm. There were some rain events during harvest but the fruit held up very well and was harvested with good flavours and free of significant disease.
The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness and were hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. Only the free run juice was cold settled and racked a few days later. The cool fermentation was started with cultured yeast to add just the right amount of freshness and complexity. After fermentation the wines were again cold settled and racked shortly after. The wine was prepared using natural fining methods.
Food Pairing: Vibrant Asian cuisine and great as a cleansing aperitif.
