Description

  • American, Hungarian & French oak
  • Black Doris plum
  • Forrest herbs & clove
  • Fine tannins

"Offering fabulous fruit purity and perfume, the wine shows Black Doris plum, blackberry, violet, clove and toasted nut aromas. The palate displays excellent weight and ripe fruit intensity, combined with silky texture and supple tannins, offering terrific drinking. At its best: now to 2031" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Nov 2022

"Classic bouquet with an edgy enticing quality showcasing aromas of dark plum and baked raspberry, clove and forrest herbs, there’s a touch of lavender and licorice then bakig spices of vanilla. Juicy, fleshy, ripe, fruity and dry. Core fruit flavours mirror the bouquet with fleshy berries and flowers. Tannins are fine and in abundance, acidity medium+ in intensity. Overall a balanced and well made wine ready for drinking from 2023 through 2027+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Dec 2022

"Ripe, moderately intense shiraz with typical chocolate/mocha, cassis, dark berry, liquorice and sweet oak flavours. A real crowd-pleaser offering very good value at this price" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Nov 2022

"Full, dense ruby-red, lighter on the rim. This has a sweet-fruited full bouquet packed with plum jam and blackberry interweaved with minty herb, pepper and dark cocoa. Full-bodied, sweet aromas of plum and blackberry enriched by dark cocoa, liquorice and spice. The mouthfeel is smooth with a ripe tannin coat providing a grip; balanced, juicy acidity enlivens the sweet and rich fruit and carries to a sustained finish" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Dec 2022

Bright ruby in colour with crimson hues. A generous nose of pepper, blackberry, choc-mocha and vanilla notes, opening further with hints of liquorice, and violets. The savoury palate shows plums and sweet spices leading onto lovely moreish tannins.

Sourced from vineyards throughout the renowned Barossa region. A range of terroir can be seen across the different vineyards, from sandy soils to sandy loam, to red-brown earth over red clay, ideal for growing expressive Shiraz.

A cold winter with higher than average winter and spring rains. Mild spring weather enabled the vines to set a healthy canopy and slightly above average crop. A very mild summer and a splash of rainfall helped to ripen the grapes beautifully. Harvest progressed steadily with good flavours producing spectacular wines.

Yalumba Galway Vintage has always had the mandate to exceed the expectations of even the most demanding red wine drinker.

Food Pairing: Enjoy with a homemade burger, caramelised onion and beetroot relish, or mushroom and thyme risotto.

I knocked the top off the first bottle at the weekend and it totally lived up to expectations. Typical depth of a Barossa Shiraz and at a great price.

This is my idea of the old big and bold Aussie shiraz and I think it's a top wine.

Very pleasant dark shiraz better on second day

D
Pleasent wine, smooth and easy to drink. My personal preference on Shiraz is to have some peppery spice, and I didn't get that with this wine
