"Opulent and engaging with dark fruit richness, dark cocoa, cake spice and toasty oak aromas on the nose. The palate is concentrated and plush, filled with powerful fruit flavours backed by layers of fine tannins, making it gratifying and hugely appealing. Grapes were sourced from McLaren Vale & Fleurieu. At its best: now to 2036" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jan 2024
Dark, bright, violet, intense. Lifted red Summer berry and berry compote aromatics. Earth (dry), spice, pepper more black than white - but only just… -and then a distant wafting afterthought of far-off oak’s aftershave. African violets, dried herbs, and white chocolate. Whilst rich and ripe enough to satisfy any estate agent, there is a savoury and textural element that will please any not-for-profit social-enterprise friends you might have. This is sunshine shiraz yet underwritten by bay leaf, olive, tapenade, anchovy and that certain uncertain umami quality. It is a rolling and rounded red wine that coats your mouth; but then an edge of acidity licks in and you are refreshed.
This red wine has a friendly assertiveness that will match robust flavours. The balance between richness and tannin, between power and an underlying acid tension and edge, make this red wine almost too drinkable. Don’t be afraid to cellar some of this wine, too. There’s reward ahead.
Sister’s Run is serious fun. Our talented young winemaker Elena wears steel cap work boots every day of course, but carries a pair of high heels in back of the ute, only for emergencies, like last minute invitations to accept trophies at gala wine show dinners and the like. Returning from a ‘knees-up’ at midnight, mid vintage, she managed to kick off one high heel and slip back into a boot’ just as the cellar crew cried out, ‘Run Sister Run’; and exactly then our winemaker and label took flight! The stiletto and boot are Sister’s Run; an independently owned and operated winery with a fierce commitment to making the best wines we can from family vineyards. We don’t take ourselves as seriously as we take our wines, but agree with Elena, all you need to know about wine is the five ‘V’s and remember the best wine is the wine you like. We hope you enjoy this wine as much as we did making it. Cheers from all at Sister’s Run... Food Pairing: Be bold in your luncheoning strategy when it comes to this red wine. Exaggerate. Use just a little too much of any chosen ingredient: pepper, chilli, coriander, garlic, turmeric, paprika… Whichever one of these you use, double the normal quantity. Trust us: we are winemakers. Oh, and one other thought: Wallaby Shanks lightly curried. We kid you not.
