Description

  • Matured oak
  • Ripe plum
  • Dark chocolate
  • Supple

"This is another cracking good wine under the De Bortoli label. It doesn’t have the power and opulence of the great 2018, but the blend of Heathcote and Rutherglen delivers more elegance and stylishness in this vintage. It’s loaded with black fruits, lifted with pepper and spice, and sustained with fine chalky tannins" Ray Jordon, Ray Jordan's Top 100 Reds Under $15, Jul 2024

Intense red with a bright purple edge. Aromas of ripe plum, blue fruits, dark choc and hints of cedar. The concentrated yet supple palate shows more blue fruits, rich dark chocolate, hints of spice and elegantly structured tannins. Ready for immediate enjoyment and with good cellaring will continue to evolve over the next 7-10 years.

Deen De Bortoli was a true visionary in the Australian wine industry, whose mission was to create quality wine for everyone to enjoy. The ‘DEEN’ range is a true reflection of his pursuit and a great tribute to Deen himself. Our Father, everybody's Deen.

2019 saw late spring rains allowing the vines to prosper following a relatively dry winter. Lower than average yields and a significantly earlier harvest allowed for good varietal flavour development and balanced acid.

Vineyards are carefully monitored to be able to harvest the fruit at optimum flavour ripeness and balanced acidity. Harvest is carried out in the cool of the morning. Fruit is then carefully destemmed into Potters and fermented at 25-30°C over 7-8 days. Pressed, racked and matured in new and older Hogshead barrels for 12 months. 40% was kept in tank to retain those lovely fruits to blend with the oak matured portions.
