Description
"Pristine and restrained, the wine shows blueberry, dark plum, violet, olive and nutmeg nuances on the nose, followed by a silky-smooth palate delivering plump mouthfeel and refined texture. Tannins are fine and in abundance, offering excellent structure and frame. At its best: 2024 to 2033" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Jun 2023
White pepper and ripe red fruits on the nose with just a splash of thyme and spicy plums. Medium bodied with fresh acidity, this wine shows concentrated plums and blue berries with a savoury finish.
Premium grapes were first grown in Te Awanga at the beginning of last century. The warm coastal climate, gentle sea breezes and the shallow clay soils combine to produce award winning wines of great varietal flavour and finesse.
A wet, warm spring was followed by a very dry summer in 2021, allowing for excellent ripening conditions. The earliest harvest on record has produced a powerful, rich wine of great intensity.
Machine and handpicked fruit were destemmed, but not crushed, into open and closed fermenters. The wine was plunged and pumped over twice a day at the height of ferment. Post ferment it was rested for two weeks on skins to advance and condense the tannin structure making the wine more approachable and supple. The wine was pressed and run to tank and new and used French oak barriques, where it was matured for 18 months before it was blended. Bottled in May 2023.
