Description
- Toasty oak
- Dark spice
- Cherry & plum
- Polished tannins
"A blend of clones from the company vineyard in Te Muna Road, Martinborough. A dense ruby red, with inviting notes of blueberry, cherry and buddleia florals on the nose. Boisterous fruit and racy acidity – layers of earthy notes as well as the intense and juicy bramble and plum. Nicely integrated – tannins are fine and chalky, lined up with the mineral and a flush of christmas spices and toasty oak. The finish is sweeter and lightly spicy again – a nice contrast to the savoury welcome" WineFolio, Apr 2020
"Combining lovely fruit sweetness with seductive savoury nuances, the wine shows spiced cherry, plum, dark spice, game and mushroom characters on the nose, leading to a juicy palate that is supple and fleshy. Elegant yet flavoursome with lovely complexity, beautifully wrapped in polished tannins" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Apr 2019
"Plums and old roses, strawberry and dusty back country road aromas. The bouquet reveals an integrated and balanced wine with just enough bottle age and complexity to easily entice a taste. On the palate - balanced with fine tannins and still plentiful acidity, flavours of red berries - some fresh, some dried. Dusty chalky tannin texture, dried leaves and brown baking spices. Overall a nice wine, varietal and ready, moderate complexity and decent finish. Drink now and through 2022" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Apr 2020
"Winemaker Martin Bell blended seven different clones of Pinot Noir (5, 6, 114, 115, 667, 777 and Abel) grown on different vineyard blocks on Te Muna Road, 9 kms east of Martinborough township. All grapes were hand harvested and destemmed into small open top vats for fermentation and given a four to five day cool pre-fermentation maceration to extract colour. Punch downs took place three times a day during fermentation and provide firm smooth tannins in the wine, which was matured for 10 months in a combo of old and new (20%) French oak barrels. The wine was filtered for clarity. It tastes full bodied, dry and fresh with dark fruit flavours and a lingering finish. It is my pick of the two new releases from Julicher Estate in Martinborough" Joelle Thompson, Apr 2020
A deep, dark cherry red in the glass with delightful aromas of toasty earth, cherries, plum and a hint of dried herbs, mocha and leather. The palate is complex, savoury, mouth filling and soft with spicy cherries, plums and sweet berries.
Julicher Estate is family owned boutique winery on the Te Muna Terraces in Martinborough focusing on the production of quality wines with distinctive fruit characters.
This wine is a blend of different Pinot Noir clones sourced from different blocks in our vineyard in Te Muna Road and a vineyard in Martinborough Terraces.
The grapes were hand-harvested and de-stemmed into a small open top vats for fermentation. The must received a 4 to 5 day cool pre-fermentation maceration before the fermentation begun. The cap was treated with a punch down 3 times daily during the peak of fermentation. After fermentation finished, the wine was pressed into new and old French oak barrels for maturation and underwent complete malolactic fermentation in the spring. The wine was racked off lees and blended, and filtered for clarity. Cellaring potential 5 years.
