Pale straw colour in the glass. Floral notes of rose water, with melon and hints of spice. The palate is rich and textural with floral and tropical fruit notes and a soft, just off-dry finish.
2019 was a stunning year for Hawke’s Bay across all varietals, including Pinot Gris. A relatively wet summer had vineyard managers concerned, however great weather over the Autumn harvest window kept any fruit condition problems away, and the grapes were harvested in perfect condition at optimal ripeness.
Grapes were crushed and destemmed and the juice had minimal contact with the skins in order to achieve its crisp, pale straw colour. Only the first ‘free-run’ juice from the press was used in this blend. After clarification the juice was carefully fermented under controlled conditions with the aim of maximising primary fruit character. The young wine was immediately racked off fermentation lees at dryness, and prepared for bottling.
