Description

  • Dry style
  • French oak
  • Ripe stonefruit
  • Subtle spice

"Bright, pale yellow, even colour throughout. The nose is full, with depth, enticing aromas of peach, pear drop, lemon interweave citrus blossoms and ginger powder. Medium-full bodied, dry to taste, concentrated aromas of peach, citrus lead the palate, enriched by young ginger, floral and peach. The palate is smooth-flowing with a lightly oily texture; lively acidity energises the intensity of fruit. This is an expressive Pinot Gris with depth of flavours and a lively drive. Match with whitebait fritters and kingfish crudo over the next 3-4 years. Handpicked, whole bunch pressed, fermented to 14.1% alc, 2 g/l RS, 10% French oak usage, aged 3 months. 440 cases produced" Candice Chow, Raymond Chan Reviews, Aug 2021

Nice bright yellow tones with green reflects. Ripe nectarine and tropical fruit flavours of pineapple and guava are revealed on the nose followed with a hint of spices and ginger. The mouth is full bodied and long, balanced with a flinty acidity. A dry style Pinot Gris.

A one in eighty year drought for the Waitaki saw creeks dry and pastures crack early in Spring of 2020. Leaving the vineyard crew racing to turn on irrigation not used in 15 years. With the dry conditions the risk of frost increased and with the influence of the October full moon our Q WINE vineyard took some damage.

Flowering proved to be successful for our Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, however there were some cooler conditions during the Chardonnay flowering period which did reduce our Chardonnay crop size.

The drought breaker come with a massive rain event in early January setting up a beautiful healthy canopy across the whole vineyard and great fruit. The race towards harvest was aided by dry and hot ripening conditions all the way to one of Waitaki’s earliest and best vintages.
