"Beautifully fine and elegant, the wine shows lemon zest, crunchy apple and jasmine aromas on the nose, followed by a brilliantly focused palate delivering pristine fruit flavours with racy acidity. It's mouth-watering and lingering with excellent fruit purity. At its best: 2025 to 2037" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2023
"Lovely, fragrant aromas of lemon, lime, bath salts, white flowers and feijoa. The palate has a real lushness of flavours - citrus, just-ripe stone fruit, lemon pith and talc. The acidity has a lively purity and drive and the length is really impressive. An outstanding wine and top value" Aaron Brasher, Cellar Talk, Feb 2023
"Imagine the dead-hottest evening of summer. Your feel like a limp dishrag. And then you drink a glass of this. It's like someone just plunged you into an icy pool of mandarin orange, cucumber, and cantaloupe, with starbursts of snappy minerals ricocheting around in the glass. Man, does this Riesling over-deliver! Bonedry Riesling is an Australian specialty, although the country still doesn't get enough credit for it. Two of the greatest regions for Australian Riesling are the cool Clare and Eden Valleys in the state of South Australia, where the top wines - like this Pikes - are vibrant and kinetically alive. If you love Riesling, this is for you. And if you don't think you love Riesling, this is absolutely for you" Karen MacNeil, WineSpee, Jul 2023
"You couldn't rationalise that Pikes' Traditionale Riesling is a bellwether wine that gives drinkers a good indiciation of what to expect from Clare Riesling each year. At times unnervingly reliable. The '22 is good gear - juicy, bright, zingy with acidity, ticklish and brisk in acid profile with juicy green apple and pink grapefruit fruitiness set around skittish, laser-like tang. Scents are good too, with floral, citrus blossom and jasmine and whiffs of lime and grapefruit again in the mix. It finds a good balance between fruitiness, refreshment factor and tension too. A great drink right here" Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
Brilliant pale straw with green hues. Lifted aromas of perfume, citrus blossom and fresh lime dominate with a talcy/mineral note evident. All the hallmarks of an excellent vintage. Crisp acid driven wine, exuding all the flavours of lime. Leaf, juice, blossom and even cordial. The highly concentrated fruit driven mid palate is wound around a core of fine acid that balances and extends the finish perfectly.
This release marks the 38th vintage of Pikes Riesling and is a worthy follower to the exceptional 2021 release, representing one of the best of the last decade. A true reflection of the cooler vintage, this wine will stand the test of time. Drink now or cellar for 10+ years.
Good winter rain allowed soil profiles to be full, giving the vines a great start to the growing season. Remarkably cool summer followed, providing perfect conditions for healthy vines to produce fruit with high natural acidity and concentrated flavours. One of the better vintages of the last decade. Fruit sourced from our own estate in Polish Hill River, and growers’ vineyards in Watervale, Leasingham, Mintaro and Sevenhill. Made exclusively with free run juice, our aim is to capture the flavour of the individual sites with minimal winemaking influence being evident.
Pikes Wines is grounded by family. From brothers to sons, since 1984 when the Pike family first stepped foot on Polish Hill River soil and decided to make wine together. Our site is unique, with tough acidic soils overlaying ancient dark grey siltstone of the Kadlunga Slate formation, which has lay beneath Polish Hill River for 650 million years. Our wine style is elegant and refined, yet approachable. A style that has been forged over many years by geology and geography, viticultural learnings, and a hands-off winemaking approach.
Food Pairing: Perfectly matched with freshly shucked South Australian oysters.
