"Firmly-structured wine with intense black-fleshed plum, cassis. liquorice, strong spicy oak and a subtle floral lift adding charm to an otherwise robust red. Complex wine offering good cellaring potential" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Sep 2023
"This is wonderfully composed and gracefully expressed with ripe cherry, thyme, toasted spice and hazelnut aromas with a hint of warm mushroom complexity. The gorgeously refined palate offers ripe fruit flavours with plush mouthfeel, finishing splendidly long and expansive. At its best: now to 2032" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Aug 2022
"An excellent bouquet with varietal ripe scents of dark cherry and fleshy Doris plums, layers of spices from soil and French oak build complexity and power. Youthful, complex and new. A dry wine with a fleshy core touches the palate first, wood spices of vanilla and clove then roasted nut follow. There’s a taut, dry and youthful squeeze accentuated by the acidity with tannins adding texture and length. Nicely complex and dry a wine ready for drinking from late 2024 through 2032+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Sep 2023
This wine is a single vineyard expression of the Taylors Pass site, showcasing an intense bouquet of ripe juicy blackberries and blueberries with hints of baking spices. A harmonious palate delivers some liquorice notes intermingled with black cherries, subtle dried herbs and finishes with round velvety smooth tannins.
Taylors Pass Vineyard sits on the northern bank of the Awatere River, running east to west through the Awatere Valley and out to the Clifford Bay in the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard is warm and sheltered from the cool southerly breezes that flow down through the valley from the mountains.
Summer was dry and mild with Marlborough’s signature high sunshine hours and cool nights delivering fruit in the best possible condition. The early autumn season provided Marlborough with very stable weather conditions therefore fruit was able to reach optimum physiological and flavour ripeness.- The fruit was impeccably clean and the lower yields meant that the grapes packed a punch in flavour and concentration.
