Most commonly made with pinot noir in New Zealand, the wines show bright citrus, apple flavours with an elegant red fruit touch. Other grapes such as merlot and syrah can also be used, making the wine slightly fuller and weightier. Wines from Mediterranean regions have become popular recently, as they offer more restrained fruit flavours with a drier finish.
