Description

  • Red berries
  • Cedar
  • Vanilla & thyme
  • Firm tannins

"Addictive aromas of pure cassis and violet are joined by fragrant spice and toasty oak nuances, it’s concentrated and dense on the palate with brooding presence and length, yet with wonderful harmony and a great sense of balance. The structure is spot on with fine, grainy tannins, finishing superbly long and engaging. From the Gimblett Gravels district. At its best: 2027 to 2038" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sep 2023

"Intense, inky cabernet sauvignon with cassis, blackberry, cacao nib, cigar box/cedar wood, black olive and nutty oak flavours. A core of sweet fruit balances the wine's tannins making the wine more approachable in its youth although it appears to have plenty of cellaring potential. Good varietal definition although I can't help wondering if a blend of merlot might have added an extra dimension" Bob Campbell, Master of Wine, Real Review, Oct 2022

"Deep core of purple hues leading to aromas of blackberry and cassis, deep purple skinned Doris plum and kitchen cupboard spices of vanilla and clove stems. There’s no mistaking the impact of new oak and it smoky sweet scents. On the palate - a core of ripe, dark berry fruit flavours, a marmite and burnt bell-pepper note, mealy textured mouthfeel with an abundance of tannins and acidity. Complex, very youthful, fleshy, fruity and ready. Great drinking from 2022 through 2030+" Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier, Oct 2021

Rich, dark berry fruit and earthy complexity with lifted notes of sandalwood, cedar, violets, florals thyme and a hint of vanilla. A dense, weighty wine kept in check by firm tannin and gentle acidity with dives exceptional length across the palate.

The same grape variety grown in different sites in the same region or sub region, can demonstrate uniquely different characteristics related to those individual sites. Even if the grapes are grown by the same people, with the same care and attention, changes in soil, slope, altitude and shelter can subtly or dramatically alter the resulting wine, even over distances of a few hundred metres or less. Church Road One is a range of single vineyard wines that typify the character and personality of their best winegrowing sites.

Food Pairing: Well matched to game and red meats, cured meats and other savoury dishes with robust flavours. Particularly well suited to meats or robust vegetables that have been grilled.
