"Ripe and inviting, the bouquet shows dark berry, thyme, game and roasted nut aromas, followed by a succulent palate offering plump mouthfeel combined with fine texture and polished tannins, finishing long and flavoursome. At its best: now to 2029" Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Dec 2023

The 2020 Cooper’s Creek Hawke’s Bay Classic Syrah features a deep red colour with a vibrant purple hue. Fruit characters reminiscent of blackberry, cherry and plum. Lifted secondary aromas include floral notes such as Jasmin and spice notes of cinnamon and vanilla from both the fruit and the oak barrels. Some savoury umami notes. A balanced palate that leans towards brightness and vibrancy that works well with the medium weight of the wine. Mid weight feel with some finely textured front palate tannins.

Steeped in history, Coopers Creek have been crafted from New Zealand’s best grape growing regions for over 40 years. With a legacy of making great wines we are proudly family owned and sustainably produced – protecting our lands for future generations.

Our Classic range of wines seeks to capture the essence of New Zealand’s winemaking regions. Our Syrah comes from Hawke’s Bay, the premier wine region for this variety. Our winemaking approach with this range is to preserve the unique beauty of the wines through conservative winemaking.

Harvested off the beautiful Chalk Ridge Vineyard, the 2020 growing season in Hawke’s Bay was exceptional for Syrah. Early season rainfall set up the vineyard for ripening fruit in April. The season wasn’t especially hot but the intensity of light was notably different than other years. The culmination of these factors give the wine exceptional colour, a modest alcohol and a lovely overall balance and freshness.

Food Pairing: This Syrah is ready to appreciate on release but with the structure to last several years in the cellar. Ideal food matches with moroccan and middle eastern cuisine. Syrah also works very well with red game meats.
